Middle Phase

Middle Phase at Idris Davies School 3-18 consists of pupils in Years 5 to 8. 

The Head of Phase is Mrs D. Parfitt.

There are 3 achievement leaders within the phase :

• Miss Scott  - Year 5/6
• Miss Murphy / Richardson – Year 7
• Miss Murphy / Richardson – Year 8

Year 5 and 6 pupils attend the primary school, however, all pupils in these year groups experience cross phase teaching in the secondary building.  They experience cross phase teaching in areas of learning such as science and technology, expressive arts and modern foreign languages. 

Pupils in Years 7 and 8 experience ‘Big Question’ thematic learning encompassing all areas of learning within the new curriculum based on the new Curriculum for Wales.  

The aim of this curriculum reform is to raise standards, reduce the attainment gap between students, and equip young people to lead fulfilling personal, civic and professional lives in modern society.  It aims to prepare the students of Idris Davies School to thrive in a future where digital skills, adaptability and creativity are crucial, and one that is rooted in Welsh values and culture.

At the end of year 8 , pupils choose their options for GCSEs.
